Alert alert! It’s February 2nd, just weeks before an awesome stewardship opportunity: Valentine’s Day! While you are shopping for gifts for your loved ones, don’t forget that this is a perfect opportunity to appreciate your donors, clients, and vendors. I’m truly surprised that this holiday hasn’t found its way onto calendars as a permanent annual opportunity to send joy and gratitude. For nonprofits, it’s perfectly positioned after year-end giving and before most major campaigns and appeals take shape. Its connotations are joy and gratitude. Stores everywhere are filled with inspiration: cards, chocolate, candy, gifts of all kinds in bright cherry red, scarves, tiny stuffed animals, and heart shaped desk accessories. The possibilities are endless, and many of them cost pennies or nothing at all (why not create a digital version of a Valentine’s card like the ones we used to hand out in school?). It’s a love connection waiting to happen, people!
The past year is one that we will never forget, and I don’t want to miss any chance to thank those who have helped us make it through. For example, we are sending a branded umbrella to one client’s top donors and board members set to arrive on their doorsteps Valentine’s weekend. The message says “Your generosity has protected us from rainy days, and now we want to return the favor.” ☔ And at the Collective headquarters, I am a busy bee compiling old school candy care packages for our team, current clients, and colleagues who referred us business in 2020.
You totally have time to plan something meaningful for those who are sweet to your organization. You love them to pieces, so why not let them know that with a surprise box of conversation hearts? Brilliant!
